Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.

Bingeworthy T V Shows & Amazing Movies

It’s the start of the fall TV season. I don’t watch regular TV, but I love sharing my favorite TV shows and movies. So I want to share with you my favorite bingeworthy TV shows and films based on books.

#1 - To All the Boys I've Loved

I admit, I haven’t read the book yet. It’s been on my TBR since I first heard about it, and I’m excited to read it, especially after watching this Netflix movie.

I gotta admit, I have a huge soft spot for fake relationships, so when Lara Jean and Peter made their agreement, I was so excited. I was very happy with the result, and I can’t wait to read the book.

Also, you know, this movie officially has a sequel in the works.

#2 - A Wrinkle in Time

The 2018 film adaptation has gotten a lot of hate, and I get why. It was cheesy and, while the graphics were cool, they were a bit much for what the book is actually about.

Even so, I adored this, primarily because Storm Reid did a fantastic job playing Meg. She was intelligent and adorable, and I love seeing diversity in much-loved classics. It was refreshing.

(It probably helps that the way Meg was portrayed in the film reminded me a lot of my own biracial character, Billie.)

#3 - Anne with an E

While I will always be partial for the 1985 Anne of Green Gables film, I am greatly enjoying the Netflix series. It dives deep into Anne’s backstory and her emotional and psychological struggles from being an orphan and abused.

The second season is out now, so if you haven’t watched it, you’re missing out.

#4 - The Princess Bride

An oldie but a goody.

Seriously, if you don’t know anything about this movie, you need to stop what you’re doing and watch it now. What’s wrong with you?

#5 - A Series of Unfortunate Events

I know I’m super behind the times because I still have read this series. When I finally get to it, I know I’ll just blaze right through them.

In the meantime, I’m going to happily watch Neil Patrick Harris play Olaf for hours. He is perfect for the role.

#6 - Emma

As established last week, Emma is my favorite Austen book. And there’s nothing better than a BBC miniseries of a Jane Austen book.

The 2009 miniseries is by far the best–made better by the fact that Johnny Lee Miller plays the role of Mr. Knightley, and he is glorious. This whole thing is just glorious.

#7 - Jurassic Park

I haven’t read this book since I was much, much younger, so I don’t remember much of any of it, but this film is by far the best film of a Michael Crichton book in existence.

It’s also one of the few non-animated films my four-year-old will watch happily. Dinosaurs, man. Dinosaurs.

#8 - Howl's Moving Castle

Yet again, I haven’t read the book. This time, though, I don’t intend to.

One of my best friends read the book in high school and said, while it’s good, it’s completely different from the iconic Miyazaki film. I’m not surprised by that, but I kinda want to keep my albeit somewhat idealized vision of Howl and company in tact.

#9 - Stardust

Oh, look! I have read the book for this one. Unfortunately, I kinda wish I hadn’t.

Not that it was bad or anything, but it lacked my favorite thing about this rather cheesy movie: the humor. It just wasn’t funny.

But if you like a bit of magic with your romance and an ounce of cheese, this is definitely the movie for you.

#10 - Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood

I love anime. Seriously love it. But if I had to choose one anime for non-anime people to watch, it would be this.

This is the one show I could literally watch over and over and over and over and over again. Forever. No regrets.

There are very few books, movies, or TV shows to manage to make a story feel so incredibly complete. This one does, and I will rave about it for eternity.

I’ve already watched it twice in 2018, and there will probably be a third time.

What are your most bingeworthy shows?

xoxo Dana
