Welcome to the 2019 Spring YA Scavenger Hunt!

Hi! I’m D. L. Pitchford, your host for this part of the hunt.

A few things about me:

  • The last movie I saw in theaters was When Harry Met Sally
  • I am at least part cat
  • My favorite author is Michael Crichton, even though I rarely write sci-fi
  • I’m obsessed with ’80s action flicks like The Running Man, Die Hard, and Big Trouble in Little China
  • And all my favorite love songs are by Blue October

You are currently hunting on the Blue Team!

And now, without further ado…

Abigail Johnson

Today, I am hosting the lovely Abigail Johnson and her book Even If I Fall!

Abigail Johnson was born in Pennsylvania. When she was twelve, her family traded in snowstorms for year-round summers and moved to Arizona. Abigail chronicled the entire cross-country road trip in a purple spiral-bound notebook that she still has, and has been writing ever since. She became a tetraplegic after breaking her neck in a car accident when she was seventeen, but hasn’t let that stop her from bodysurfing in Mexico, writing and directing a high-school production of Cinderella, and becoming a published author.

Exclusive Content

For the Hunt, Abigail wanted me to share a moodboard for her stunning novel EVEN IF I FALL

Isn’t that just gorgeous? I’m a huge sucker for suspense and drama, and this book sounds fantastic. I instantly went to add it to my TBR pile, only to realize I already had! Oops!

This story has been called “smart,” “heartfelt,” “genuine,” and “complex,” and it’s perfect for fans of Kasie West, Morgan Matson, and Sarah Dessen. Yes please!

Haven’t heard about EVEN IF I FALL yet?

BROOKE AND HEATH SHOULD NEVER HAVE BECOME FRIENDS, LET ALONE FALLEN IN LOVE.

A year ago, Brooke Covington lost everything when her beloved older brother, Jason, confessed to the murder of his best friend, Calvin. Brooke and her family became social pariahs, broken and unable to console one another. Brooke’s only solace remains the ice-skating rink, where she works but no longer lets herself dream about a future skating professionally.

When Brooke encounters Calvin’s younger brother, Heath, on the side of the road and offers him a ride, everything changes. She needs someone to talk to…and so does Heath. No one else understands what it’s like. Her brother, alive but gone; his brother, dead but everywhere. Soon, they’re meeting in secret, despite knowing that both families would be horrified if they found out. In the place of his anger and her guilt, something frighteningly tender begins to develop, drawing them ever closer together.

But when a new secret comes out about the murder, Brooke has to choose whose pain she’s willing to live with—her family’s or Heath’s. Because she can’t heal one without hurting the other.
